# Lines & Channels

## Standard Line (Alt + T)

Creates a straight line with three control points:

* Start point: Controls line origin
* End point: Sets line termination
* Middle point: Adjusts positioning precisely

Used for trendlines, support/resistance, and connecting chart points.

You can also **add custom text directly to the line**, allowing you to label levels, trends, or key points on the chart. This text is saved in Templates, allowing you to quickly reuse labels such as supply and demand zones across charts.

## Arrow

Functions like a Standard Line but adds directional emphasis:

* Includes arrow pointer at endpoint
* Highlights directional movement
* Ideal for marking breakouts or trend direction

## Ray

Line that extends infinitely in one direction:

* Has starting point and direction
* No endpoint (continues to chart edge)
* Perfect for ongoing trendlines
* Eliminates need to redraw as chart develops

## Trend Angle

<video autoPlay muted loop playsInline src="https://mintcdn.com/takeprofit-a5dc0462/Xil9Hs08rlFjuBLX/images/guide/platform/chart-widget/drawing-tools/2.8.9_Trend_Angle.mp4?fit=max&auto=format&n=Xil9Hs08rlFjuBLX&q=85&s=03180ce16e71db37da1f799ba56198de" />

**Trend Angle** is a drawing tool that allows you to measure and visualize the angle of a price movement directly on the chart. It is useful for evaluating trend strength, momentum, and the steepness of price changes.

* **Angle Measurement**\
  Displays the exact angle (in degrees) between the starting point and the projected trend line.\
  This helps quantify how aggressive or weak a trend is.

* **Dynamic Visualization**\
  The angle value is shown directly on the chart near the drawing, updating in real time as you adjust the line.

## Horizontal Ray (Alt + Shift + H)

Specialized ray that maintains horizontal orientation:

* Extends infinitely to the right
* Maintains consistent price level
* Excellent for support/resistance levels, targets, and stop levels

## Specialized Lines

* **Horizontal Line (Alt + H)**: Fixed price level with defined endpoints
* **Vertical Line (Alt + V)**: Fixed time point with defined endpoints
* **Cross Line (Alt + X)**: Creates intersection of horizontal and vertical lines

## Parallel Channel (Alt + Shift + C)

Creates trading channel with parallel boundaries:

* Two parallel outer lines
* Optional middle line
* Adjustable angle and width
* Configurable to extend infinitely

## Pitchfork

![Pitchfork placed on a chart with its three anchor points](https://mintcdn.com/takeprofit-a5dc0462/l2lxioBOOMWzI8TH/images/guide/platform/chart-widget/2.8.7.4_Pitchfork.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=l2lxioBOOMWzI8TH\&q=85\&s=c9a7879d64ec5b766e8b6e98f889b7f2)

The **Pitchfork** (Andrews' Pitchfork) projects dynamic support and resistance from a single price swing. You place three points and TakeProfit draws a **median line** plus two **parallel lines** that fan out from it — the shape traders use to frame trends, pullbacks, and reversion targets.

**How to place it:**

1. Select **Pitchfork** from the drawing tools toolbar.
2. Click the **first point** at the start of the move (the handle origin — usually a pivot high or low).
3. Click the **second point** at the next swing.
4. Click the **third point** at the following swing. The median line extends from the first point through the midpoint of the second and third, with a parallel line running through each of them.

After placing it, drag any of the three points to refit the fork to a different swing.

### Pitchfork variations

From the tool's context menu (right-click the fork) you can switch how the median line is calculated, without redrawing:

* **Schiff Pitchfork** — the median line starts from the midpoint between the first two points, shifting the whole fork for a different reaction to the initial swing.
* **Modified Schiff Pitchfork** — like Schiff, but the starting point accounts for both price and time between the points.
* **Inside Pitchfork** — a tighter fork drawn inside the swing, useful for narrower channels.

All variations use the same three-point placement as the standard Andrews' Pitchfork.

The Pitchfork shares the [common customization options](#common-customization-options) below — line color, style, and thickness, extension controls, sync level, and lock.

## Common Customization Options

All line tools share these settings:

* Line properties (color, style, thickness)
* Background color options
* Line extension controls — extend the line left or right beyond the defined points
* Middle Point — toggle visibility of the midpoint marker on the line
* Text editing — add custom text directly to your lines directly on the chart or by using the dedicated text editor block found in the specific line settings menu
* Synchronization levels:
  * Global (all charts)
  * Workspace (current workspace)
  * Channel (linked charts)
  * Local (current chart only)
* Lock feature to prevent accidental changes
